Tete Batu / Soft Trekking

Getting to Tetebatu, a village on the lower slopes of a volcano, was a lovely relief from the heat and crowds of the towns: beautiful rice paddies, tobacco fields, the rain forest, and only four other tourists made it feel a little bit off the beaten track. The kids in the village rushed along the roads to say hello to us strange looking things (at least to Tara, looking so different!). We spent two days here exploring the village and visiting the forest where there were black monkeys with incredibly long tails playing high up in the trees, and a beautiful waterfall to swim under (bathing under the falls there is supposed to promote hair growth!). Spending a couple of hours relaxing there, in the mist from the waterfall was wonderful. There was a lovely local guy (Emmy) in the village who, as well as feeding us fantastic food, helped us with information to get local transport to Sumbawa (getting reliable information about local transport felt like a miracle - up until then we'd only been able to get people to tell us about private transport at highly elevated prices!). With painful bargaining, we made our way to Sumbawa Island.

Tete stone has a nice accommodations such as hotels Soedjono and Green Orry cottages are equipped with a restaurant. Living in Tete Batu is a good choice if you still want to continue the journey to visit other tourist attractions at the foot of Mount Rinjani because Tete Batu located in the middle of the path to several tourist attractions such as waterfalls Aiktemer, Brain Kokoq, Village Pringgasela and Suradadi.

The Dutch colonial heritage style of the house is typical for the time. Very well preserved, the house is now the main reception area and also the residence of SOEJONO  family who has run the hotel since a very long time.

Spending a night or more at Hotel Soedjono is a great experience. The solitude and fresh crisp mountain air will refresh your body and senses. Air-conditioning is not necessary here and in the months from June to September you might need a jumper. Water is plentiful here and it comes straight from the mountain springs. The swimming pool is filled with fresh.

This morning you will visit the village of Tetebatu and Loyok, popularly known as a peaceful and tranquil village, do not miss the chance to do soft trekking to the local forest inhabited by the wild black monkeys (pitu), mahagony trees and cloves plantation, you may enjoy the simpe and natural way of life of the local. Before that, you can visit Lingsar temple, that symbolizes the harmony of Moslem and Hindhu, Taman Narmada, a kingly garden which is also the replica of lake Segara Anak in Mount Rinjani.
